Install an Extension

Before loading a new extension into TYPO3, you should check the Repository carefully (http://typo3.org/extensions/repository/). Because TYPO3 is open source, some extensions are better than others. In general, you will probably want to only install “Stable” extensions.

To upload and install an extension into TYPO3 you must login with administrative access. Then follow these steps:

1. Click on the Ext Manager module in the left column.
2. Choose Import extensions from the Menu dropdown list.
3. Before uploading an extension, update the internal TYPO3 extension list by clicking the Retrieve/Update button. (It may take several moments to fully populate the internal list.)
4. Then type the name of the extension you've selected to import in the List or look up all extensions textbox. Then click Update.
5. If more than one option is presented, select the extension you want to import and click it.
6. Click the Import/Update button to install the extension.
7. Finally, click the Update button to update your local databases.

Note: Although the extension has now been installed, it may need to be configured for it to work. Please see the extension's manual for more information.
