Add a New Page
For Version: TYPO3 4.2.1
The center section of the TYPO3 backend displays a page tree. The page tree represents the organizational structure of the website and is used to generate the website navigation. It is similar to the directory structure on your hard drive, but the elements in the page tree are not really in directories, they are stored inside TYPO3 in a database. Adding a page requires selecting a place in the page tree that you want the page to appear and then creating the page.
TYPO3 offers several ways to create a new page. You can choose the one you prefer. The following how-to offers one of the most common and easiest methodsfor adding a page. If you would like to explore additional methods, please see theAdd a New Page Advanced how-to.
- To begin adding a new page, you must be logged in to the TYPO3 backend.
- Click on the Page Module.
The Page Tree shows the organizational structure of the website. Select a page in the tree where you would like to add a new page. In this case the selection is the About Us page. - Notice the added information that pops up that show the unique page identification number and the text alias that identifies the page.
- Click on the page icon next to the page title (About Us is the title in this case).
- Clicking on the page icon will display a pop up menu. Select New from the menu.
- Now select Page (inside) to add a new page inside the About Us page.
- The new page form contains all the main fields for the new page.
- First, unhide the page so it will show up on the website. To unhide the page, uncheck the Hide Page checkbox.
- The only page field that is required is the Pagetitle. The small yellow square icon with the "!" inside indicates that the field needs to be filled in.
- In this example, the page title is Questions. This is a new section that will contain questions people might have about the church and being a Christian.
- Enter the page title and then click the Save icon at the top to save the page.
- The result is not obvious because the newly created page is inside the About Us page.
- Click the + sign to the left of the About Us page to expand this portion of the tree.
This expands the tree and reveals the new Questions page. - If you'd like, you can view the Frontend version of the Questions page in a separate browser window by clicking on the page icon for Questions and selecting Show.
This will cause a second browser window to pop up that will display the page users will see if they go to the Questions page on this website. - This is the page as users would see it.
Notice that the cursor is pointing to show that the Questions page is inside the About Us page in the page tree and the navigation of the website. - This completes the Basic Add Page How-To. If you would like to view more ways to add pages, please see the Advanced Add Page How-To.
