Subject: diffrent languages - staff field values
Hi there,

what is the best way to have staff fields in different languages (e.g. department, personal info)?
Do I have to create a staff info per staff person and language?

I know that the staff directory extension can handle the title for each staff field in diffrent languages,
but what about the actual values the FE User writes into these fields?

Thanks,

Katharina

Hi Katharina,

No, you do not have to create separate staff records. What I think you need to do is allow multiple languages for your site. By doing so, the records become multilingual. We usually recommend users to Kasper's How-To on the TYPO3 site (use the new way not the old way).

http://typo3.org/documentation/tips-tricks/multi-language-sites-in-typo3/

Since we do not run multilingual sites, we do not have expertise in this. Perhaps someone else can chime in on the plusses and minuses of this approach, and other guidance.

Hi *,

I've already got multiple languages activated and the labels of the staff info fields are displayed
correctly in the diffrent languages (you can see that here: http://www.wzw.tum.de/waldinventur/index.php?id=7&tx_wecstaffdirectory_pi1[curstaff]=1...
The problem is that the actual info fields of a person (e.g. positon) are only displayed once in the editing mode
so I cannot really enter the values in a diffrent laguage...

Would it be a workaround to actually create a staff info per person and language or might there be some problems
with that?

Thanks,

Katharina

Can anyone help me implementing the following workaround:

I've got one staff info per person and language. The problem is, that changing the
language while viewing the staff single page of a person doesn't of course
display the same page in a diffrent language because the staff info ids of one person
are diffrent in each language

You can see it here for the person Beinhofer in englisch:
1.) http://www.wzw.tum.de/waldinventur/index.php?id=staff&L=1&tx_wecstaffdirectory_pi1[curstaff]=28
and in german:
2.) http://www.wzw.tum.de/waldinventur/index.php?id=staff&L=0&tx_wecstaffdirectory_pi1[curstaff]=3
(though the values of the staff info fields are actually still the same, as I haven't done the translation work yet)...

How can I implement with typoscript, that if the url is like 2.) and the Language Id changes to Englisch
(probably something like globalVar = GP:L = 1) the Url should be redirected to the englisch Version
with the URL like 1.) and the other way round?

I know it isn't really a nice workaround but I desperately need a solution...
I would be very, very glad if anyone can help me, I'm not really good in programming and I don't
know the syntax for php or typoscript...

Thanks!

Best regards,

Katharina

As we talked about off-forum, the Staff Directory did not fully support multiple languages. The new version which should be released next week will.

Hello and congrats for this cool staff management ext.

I meet the same problem. Can anyone post the solution?

I 've done the translation for staff records in list module, but now I don't know how to continue. I've added the wec_staffdirectory plugin in the translated page, but when I switch the language in the frontend, I get "Staff not found" error.

Thanks for any help
