Subject: Problem loading FLV files
Hi,

I am trying to use this extension, for our university and later also for our church, but I don't get it working. Installation goes fine. I can insert the right (video) content element, but then when I try to upload a flv file, it won't work. I tried it two ways, first upload it into fileadmin and then link to it, and directly using the browse button, but whatever I try, the extension does not recognize it as a flv file. The little exlamation mark icon to the left of the entry does not dissappear. Any idea what I am doing wrong?

best regards,

Gerrit

Gerrit,

Are you sure that the video file is getting uploaded? In our experience using this extension quite a bit, we have found that the normal HTTP upload times out because the files are often too large. If we can get the file up to the server, then it works fine. For our church website we now upload our FLV files using FTP into a directory within fileadmin. Then we can insert them into the plugin without a problem. This issue is caused by the way files are uploaded with HTTP.

Hi Mark,
Thanks for your quick response!
I am working on my local machine (windows xp). I have entered the file into the fileadmin folder directly, but even then I have the problem mentioned above. I can think of two reasons. a: the file is somehow corrupt or too large (although it plays fine in my FLV player) or b: there is some kind of interaction with another extension. I use DAM quite intensively.
Any ideas?
God Bless,
Gerrit

Gerrit,
The best way to see if the upload worked is to check the uploads/tx_wecflashpresentation/ folder and see if your FLV file has been copied there. Even if you start with the files in fileadmin, a copy should end up in this location as part of the upload process.

If the files are in uploads as expected, then the yellow exclamation mark may be related to something other than the presence of the FLV file.

Thanks,
jeff

Sorry Jeff, this seems to be a bit tougher then I hoped. When I select the file, it appears in the screen, but not in the folder you mention. Problem is that I cannot even try to save the content element, which would presumably start the process of saving the flv file in the uploads/tx_wecflashpresentation/ folder. As soon as I press the save button, I get the message "the fields with the yellow exclamation mark are not correctly filled in etc". But I can see the right filename with the right extension. I check the file and they are good flv, albeit a bit large with 72 Mb. It seems the extension is just refusing to even look at my flv file. I have the same problem with our live server, to which I will give you access later today so you can have a look.

Argh, bad advice on my part...I guess its hard to upload files when you can't kick of the upload process in the first place

One thing that might be tripping you up is the location of the exclamation mark. While it shows up next to the file, it may not actually be related to the FLV. Instead, the exclamation mark just means that something is bad, somewhere on the form (Not the greatest usability in the world...hopefully future versions of TYPO3 will improve this).

The Flash Presentation extension requires that all fields are filled in. If you've got anything blank, then that could be the source of your problems. Just a shot in the dark though...

Thanks,
Jeff

I just did a quick test to display this page:

http://webempoweredchurch.com/index.php?id=519

I will delete it soon since it was just a test. I know you know a lot of this, but just to make sure, the settings were:

Type: Intert plugin
Header: Web-Empowering the Church
Plugin: Flash Player - Video
Plugin Options: Web-Empowering the Church
Intro Message: Web-Empowering the Church
Background Image:
Low Bandwidth Video: low_04.flv
Encode Bitrate for Low Bandwidth Video: 30
High Bandwidth Video: high_04.flv
Encode Bitrate for High Bandwidth Video: 200

It seems to save and then play with these settings.

Mark

Jeff, a great shot in the dark! I indeed did not fill in the details of the second tab, about the pictures. After I did that, it work great! Rather dumb, I know, but with most extensions, it is possible to save your work while you are in the process of filling in forms. Thanks for your help guys, great stuff!
