Subject: Flash FLV Encoding
I've been asked what we use to create FLV video files and the settings we use. Hopefully this will be helpful:

We currently use Sorenson Squeeze to encode the FLV files:
http://www.sorensonmedia.com/solutions/prod/mx_win.php

Here are the settings we use for the two videos we produce:

Low Bandwidth
Audio Codec: Fraunhofer MP3
Data Rate: 8 KBits/Sec
Sample Rate 11025
Channels: Mono
Video Codec: Sorenson Spark Pro
Method: Sorenson 2-Pass VBR
Data Rate: 20 KBits/Sec
Frame: 160 by 120
Frame Rate: 10 Frames/Sec
Total: 31 KBits/Sec

High Bandwidth
Audio Codec: Fraunhofer MP3
Data Rate: 32 KBits/Sec
Sample Rate 22050
Channels: Mono
Video Codec: Sorenson Spark Pro
Method: Sorenson 2-Pass VBR
Data Rate: 224 KBits/Sec
Frame: 320 by 240
Frame Rate: 14.98 Frames/Sec
Total: 31 KBits/Sec

I currently use Swish to create Flash video, but this is the first I've heard of FLV encoding. Does the encorder use mention convert MPEG to FLV? Or will it convert analog video FLV?

What I want to do is take the VCR tape we make of the sermon, and put it on our website. I'm using Frontpage. I assume that once the video is converted to FLV, I can upload it to my site, and play it in Flash. Is that correct?

Right. However, you need a capture card in your computer to capture the video. Then you can convert the captured video which is often MPEG or AVI or WMV to FLV.

I believe there are also some free encoders that write FLV files, but I have not tried them. The output of Sorenson is very good.

Another good solution for encoding AVI, MPEG, Quicktime, WMV video to FLV is the free Riva Encoder:
