Subject: Error on Page
I recently installed the WEC Discussion Forum and the message "Error on Page" displays on the front end. How do I find out what the error is? It appears that everything is working. Also, I have the following quesitons,

1. Word filter defalt - I trust this is a list of unacceptable words that will prevent a post if I select "discard the post." Does a message display informing the user the message has been discarded or will it simply not post?

2. I don't want to require a log in for a post but I want to control who can reply. I have a log-in box installed on another page for the staff directory. Can this log-in box be used to give certain people access to reply?

Thanks,
Ronnie

Hi Ronnie,

I am not sure about the "Error on page" message. I looked and could not find that as any kind of error message from the plugin. Do you have a URL we could look at to see this error? Where it is and how it is displayed may be helpful in tracking down that issue.

As for 1. -- you can can modify the filter word list if you want. And if you set it to discard post, then it will discard the post without letting the user know. This is to prevent someone trying to spam. A better way to do this is to send it to a moderator. Then you can see if the post is bad or not, and if it is acceptable, then you can allow it through. Of course, this does take work on your part, and if you have a very busy forum, you may have the spambots get attracted to it and post more. So you would have to deal with those messages.

For 2. -- you can only control the login for any post or not. It works for post or reply. A feature has been requested where you could require login to reply only but it has not been implemented yet. This was mentioned for a Question/Answer forum...so anyone could post questions but only authorized/trusted could answer. Let me know if this is what you are looking for or have some other need.

Thanks Dave,

http://www.epworth.com/stay_informed/task_force_50/building_our_future_together_forum/
here is a link to the page in question.

Where do I find the filter word list? Also, for question number 2 you are right on. Ours is a question/answer forum and our need is exactly as you stated. Anyone can ask a question or post a concern or comment but the responses/replys need to come from specified committee members.

Thanks,
Ronnie

I did not see any error on the page yesterday. I tried it again this morning and your site seems down. If you still see errors, it may be that you have to be logged into the Backend and some errors then may show up. If you still see errors, I can look at it with a Backend access to your site. You can email that to me.

As for the word list, it is in 'spamWords' TypoScript constant. You can find this in the Backend through Template->Constant Editor->plugin.tx_wecdiscussion_pi1. This list is backwards encoded (i.e. hello => olleh). You can either add or change this, or add new words to the 'addSpamWords' constant. New words added to 'addSpamWords' in this should not be backwards. You can either erase the 'spamWords' or modify it. We tried to do a comprehensive list for most churches, however we know that some blogs like a less restrictive list.

Dave,
Yes, our site has recently been inaccessible for a short period every morning. I’ve just become conscious of that so we will have to check with Vine Hosting about that.

As for the “error on page” message, it has just occurred to me that it is on my internet explorer status bar (or what ever the terminology is for that grey bar at the bottom on internet explorer.) I had someone else check from their computer and they definitely see it too. On most pages it will say “Done” after the page loads but on this page it always says “error on page.”

Thanks for the info on the word list too. I appreciate your help.
Ronnie
