I'm trying to enter my church's service schedule into Calendar Base:

Service Type 1 on 1st, 2nd, 4th and 5th Sunday
Service Type 2 on 3rd Sunday
Service Type 3 on 1st Sunday

How can I set this up simply using recurrence?

I think this will work for you:

Here is a summary of what to do. Set up three separate records for recurrent events, one for each Type of service. In each case, instead of selecting Weekly for the recurrences, select Monthly.

Set up the first record.

For Service Type 1, enter "first" for By Day of Week field and it should already default to "Sunday" of every month. If not change that field to Sunday.

Then select Add Recurrence icon.
Enter "second" and (obviously) "Sunday" of every month.

Then select Add Recurrence icon again.
Enter "fourth" and then "Sunday" of every month.

Then select Add Recurrence icon again.
Enter "fifth" and then "Sunday" of every month.

Save that record.

Set up the second record.

For Service Type 2, enter "third" for By Day of Week field and it should already default to "Sunday" of every month. If not change that field to Sunday.

Set up the third record.

Save that record.

For Service Type 3, enter "first" for By Day of Week field and it should already default to "Sunday" of every month. If not change that field to Sunday.

Save that record.

I take it from what you say that on the first Sunday you have two services at different times?

That should take you less time than it took me to write this posting.

The key is to pick "Monthly" rather than "Weekly" for the recurrence.
