Subject: Importing a .pdf file
I have been working all weekend on the WEC. First try at it. It has been a learning experience. I have a few unresolved questions, but I'll solve them one at at time. My question is-- How do you import a .pdf file into a page? I can't seem to get it to look right. Thanks for your help.
Here is what I have accomplished so far this weekend.

Any suggestions??

Ted,

With a PDF, you need to link to the file. First, you will need to upload the file to a directory using Filelist. Here are two options:

- You can just enter text in a regular text element, highlight the text, and link to the file inside the rich text editor. The text could say something like "June Newsletter."

- You could use the Filelist content element. You can give it a directory like fileadmin/thepdfs/ and it will list all the files in that directory with links to them.

There's an extension that may help as well, if I understand your question correctly:

Generally, I would say that your best bet is really to set up links to download the PDF files and/or to convert them to text or HTML if you want to display them on the web site. If they are already in PDF format and you don't have the originals, then a download would be best in most cases. If you have the originals and want to display on the site, I would work on formatting them for the page rather than trying to get a PDF to display.

There are some websites that are designed to handle this well. www.Acrobat.com is starting to do some neat stuff and there are a couple of on-line publishing solutions that are pretty slick (and completely eluding me at the moment). They perform really well over the web - better than native PDF apps perform most of the time when launched through a browser.
