Subject: Getting Started
Hi all, I'm a noob to WEC and typo3. My question is this. The web site that I intend on switching my church's web pages to already has Typo3 installed. Now, when I install the WEC will it be a problem or are those two things seperate insalls?
Thanks for your help
Dave

Hey Dave,
You'll probably want to install the WEC Starter Package separately from any TYPO3 autoinstaller that your host provides.

The WEC Starter Package is a specialized TYPO3 install that has a lot of content and extensions filled in already so it gives you an easier place to start from. You could use the TYPO3 autoinstaller from your host and build everything in the Starter Package from scratch, but most people find it easier to use the WEC Starter Package and install it manually.

Hope that helps point you in the right direction...

Thanks,
Jeff

Perhaps for efficiency reasons it might be better to adjust the typo3_src symlink to point at the host's shared typo3 installation rather than having a separate copy of the main code?

... or is the typo3_src itself customised for WEC too?

The TYPO3 source is not customized by WEC at all, so if you're host does have a shared TYPO3 source directory then you can certainly point at that. I'm not aware of many hosts other than Vine Hosting (and probably others that specifically specialize in TYPO3) that do this, but if it is available then its a good idea.

The only recommendation I would make is to be sure that that TYPO3 version you link to is the same version as the Starter Package you're trying to use.

Thanks,
jeff
