Subject: Different Nav bar per page
I am getting a little more comfortable using the BE of TYPO3, but now I want to play around a little more by diving into editing the template a little more.

I would like to recreate the Navigation bar, especially for the home page of www.CokesburyMargate.org There are certain pages I would like to have at the front, with buttons like you see them on the page. For instance, there clearly needs to be a "Directions" button... but I do not want the Directions button to be on all pages. I'm mostly happy with the way the navigation is right now, but since the homepage is most important it needs to be highly tailored to get people to the pages they are looking for within the first few seconds of visiting the site.

Really appreciate your help... if there are tutorials please provide a link so I get to the right one, I am by no means an expert at CSS language or whatever its written in, and only feel comfortable making the surgical incision where instructed to do so.

Jason,

Could this be done by adding content elements to the Home page that add navigation? For example, maybe you can create a graphic of a button, place it on the page and link it to an internal page. We do some of that on the WEC Home page.

I suppose it could... I'll have to get creative now, LOL

I guess that would be a "No" then for editing the nav bar on a page by page basis?

Jason,

Well, the idea of a template is that it is usually the same on most pages and the nav bar is based on the pages around each page. The nav bar is defined by the pages themselves. A separate Home page template can be created but then you will have two templates -- a home page template and a subpage template. To simplify this, we commonly add content elements to a Home page to add custom navigation (buttons) beyond the default navigation for the template. This is fast and easier to maintain. But you do have the option of creating a Home-page specific template too.

Mark
