Subject: WEC-Typo3 Server Install
Forgive me if this is too basic, but I'm having trouble just accessing the local server version of Typo3 to get up to speed locally before committing anything to our existing site.

I downloaded the zip file from WEC (wec_starter-4_1_5-1_1_0_fullserver.zip) and extracted to a root folder on my hard drive without any spaces in the pathname.

I launched Start.exe and the server loaded and the sample site loaded. I then redirected to the backend (http://localhost:4001/typo3/index.php) and entered the username and password from the WEC site (admin wec) but failed the login with the following message:
"Your login attempt did not succeed. Make sure to spell your username and password correctly, including upper/lowercase characters."

I've also tried the other username and passwords supplied on the WEC site (basicadmin wec, basicuser wec, etc.) but those fail as well.

What am I missing? Do I need to create some other infrastructure first?

Thanks in advance!

Ed,

When the software starts it actually goes to the frontend at:

http://localhost:4001/

There is a login box there for frontend users of your website. To modify the website, you need to go to the backend at:

http://localhost:4001/typo3

My current guess is that you are trying to login on the frontend mainly because that is a VERY common point of confusion for new users.

Another possibility is that there are multiple copies of the program running. This happens if you run start.exe more than once. You can tell more than one are running because you will see multiple earth icons in the tool bar. In my experience, the easiest way to fix this is just to reboot and then run start.exe once.

I hope this helps. And welcome to WEC!!

Mark

I'm getting the message from the Typo3 backend screen, not the landing page of the sample site.

Only one version of the server running...

I played with the Internet Options thinking that the cookies setting was too strict, so I changed to allow all cookies and still get the message.

Scripting setting is set to enable scripting.

...scratching my head

Ed,

Okay, please turn off your firewall if you have one. The firewall may alter login packets. Also, please let us know what browser and version you are using. For example, we know Firefox version 3 beta does not work properly yet with TYPO3.

Disabled the Norton Internet Security's firewall...Window's firewall already disabled...

Still no luck

"admin wec" for both username and password, correct?

Ed,

Yes:

Username: admin
Password: wec

I am unsure what the issue is. This is normally quit simple. Could it be that something else is running on the same port as MySQL?

Aha! The confusion was around the username and password.

I was using "admin wec" as both the username AND the password.

Might wanna clarify this a bit on the server instructions page for simple minds like mine!

Thanks Mark!

Ed,

Ah, okay. Well thanks for letting us know about that confusion. As you suggested, we changed the page in an attempt to make it easier for people to understand.

Hopefully it is easier to understand now.
