Subject: Install 123 fails - immediately
I've just completed (I beieve)installing all the files on my ISP. I've changed the permissions. I've created a database. And I've switched the typo3/install/* initial files.

When I go to www.bujmc.org I get my current web site. Install 123 does not start up. I'm sure that this is because index.html is redirected (via apache) to home.php (our first page.)

So I tried www.bjumc.org/typo3/install/index.php?mode=123&step=1. This causes the the error message copied below.

Any ideas? I'm baffled.

Thanks.

Russell,

To start, If you have not run it already, please run the WEC server checker here:

Mark:

Thanks for the hint. I ran the WEC server checker a month or so ago. The only problem was the level of PHP on my server. Since then, my ISP upgraded to a version of PHP that is "up to date" in WEC terms.

My ISP doesn't support any unix commands from a simple user likeme. So I manually unzipped the WEC package, used FileZilla to FTP the files to my website. Then I had to manually (sigh) change the permissions on what seemed like thousands of files one directory at a time (no cpanel option to recur down the file tree). Doing the install this way is frought with error possibilities (on my part).

I'm contemplating deleting everything and reinstalling the files again. It took me hours to change the permissions - I'll just have to do it again.

Part of my problem (maybe) is that I'm installing the WEC and TYPO3 files in the same directory as our currently operational web site. I'm doing this as I don't have a second domain name AND even if I did, it isn't clear how I'd ever migrate a WEC website to our current domain.

Thanks again for your advice.

Peace.

Close out this thread. I gave up on installing the starter package in the same directory as our working (non-WEC) website. I then purchased a 2nd domain name and upgraded our ISP account to allow 2 websites. I loaded the starter package on the 2nd web site and got much, much further in the installation.

I no longer need any help with this thread. Am having other problems with the starter installation, but I'm not experiencing this problem anymore.

Thanks to everyone who helped.

Russ,

If your host upgraded PHP then many of the settings may have changed as part of the upgrade process. So running the script is still important.

A second domain is convenient but should not be needed, but I am pleased that you are making some progress. That is great news. Given your recent upgrade, I wonder if your hosting company could unzip the file and set the permissions on files/directories for you. They can do that very easily and quickly on their side.

Mark

A second domain is necessary. There were simply too many redirects and multiple uses of index pages when I had both our current web site and the starter package running in the same domain and same directory.

When I got a second domain and installed the starter package, at least the starter package would get through steps 1, 2 and 3 whereas it wouldn't even start step 1 when the starter package was in the same domain and directory.

Now I can get through steps 1 2 and 3, but the go step does not have a way to set the site url. See the newest thread I've started.

Thanks for your help.
