Subject: VineHosting storage space
I am trying to guage approximately how much space I will need for our website. 1G is a lot of space, but I am wondering how much space the features like a forum, etc. take up. Especialy when 50-100 people start posing on a regular basis, and we have documents uploaded to the site, like the monthly news letter or other docs. Can someone give me some, not rough, but maybe some dull estimates. I know its hard to sharpen those kinds of facts down to an individual church.

Greetings in the name of Jesus Christ.

This really depends upon the amount of data that you will generate.
Forum posts are generally small enough 1GB of storage will last your church for a long period of time.

We have churches with a large number of sermons stored online - and 1GB of space is enough.
On the other hand... this really depends upon the size of all the files you send up.

A perfect example.

The same sermon file in mpg format may take 500mb of space - if in flash it may be only 5mb

2 sermons could take up your entire space if you do not work smartly using many free applications to shrink these in size.

I hope that helps.

I think I get the picture. We will probably only be uploading sermons as audio files, and we do not have capabilities to video record yet - and probably wont for a long time - unless this new website helps our church grow into those size shoes.

Uploading audio to flash files will save a lot of space I am sure.

Can you explain to me what there is to know about sub-domains? Am I understanding it right that it works like a second website, lets say we could use it for our youth ministry. We could have www.cokesburymargate.org and then www.really-cool-youth-name.org and run both sites on the same account? Or is a sub-domain more like having a restricted area for members? Because I am looking at having anyone who wants an "account" with the church website to sign up for "fee" and start using it right away. Then having another login-required section for staff and volunteer leaders of committees and such.

I try to wikipedia some of these terms and get a lot of technical lingo that hurts more than helps.

Hope this will help:

www.domain.com = main domain
subdomain.domain.com = subdomain (replace www with the subdomain name)

www.anotherdomain.com pointing to a site withing a site = add-on domain.

there is no limit to the number of user accounts in WEC software that you have.

Kind Regards,

Glenn Kelley
