Subject: Minimum Space Requirements for Hosting
Our church is just getting started with looking at the WEC tools and are very excited about their potential.

One of the areas that we're trying to figure out right now is hosting -- whether to go with one of the "turn-key" solutions or whether to stick with our current provider. As we're trying to sort that out, there is one basic question that I couldn't find an answer to in the installation documentation or on the forums:

What are the minimum disk space requirements for the TYPO3 "infrastructure", before we start adding our actual site content? That would be helpful as we try to determine where we might need to start in terms of hosting space.

Thanks!

Scott,

The Foundation for Evangelism (the parent organization to the Web Empowered Church team) offers a turn-key solution via VineHosting.

While it is possible for you to use virtually any webhosting provider- many have found it difficult to use a 3rd party provider for numerous reasons.

The WEC Starter Package installs the full TYPO3 content management with some
commonly used add-on and WEC ministry extensions, WEC website templates, and
pre-filled sample pages and data to jump-start you on creating your website.

All of Web-Empowered Church software is built to work within the TYPO3 framework
and cannot be added to other existing website setups unless TYPO3 is installed
there. Working with WEC solutions is essentially working with TYPO3 – a powerful
open-source, enterprise solution for website content management.

Running WEC software does not require any specific hosting arrangement. WEC can run on your own server computer at your location (self-hosting) or on a server computer located elsewhere such as at a hosting-services company (hosted). You can even run WEC on your desktop computer -- ideal for learning and testing. And, you can run WEC on a server computer dedicated to your website (dedicated server) or one with many other websites running along with yours (shared server). The technical requirements for a server as published on the TYPO3 website are:

Operating System: Unix/Linux, Windows, or Mac
Webserver: Apache or IIS with PHP
Other Software: MySQL Database
Hardware: A common webserver setup is fine with a modern CPU and at least 256 MB Ram. It is suggested you have at least 500mb or more for disk space - as your account's disk space will begin to grow quickly should you add video and audio options.

Also - As with all database-driven applications, more RAM is better.

Personally I have found using LAMP (Linux, Apache, MySQL and PHP) is the best solution...
Also - many of our clients have come to us simply due to their current webhost wanting to charge them additional fees for what they were told was "Intensive Server Resource Usage."

If you would like to test the software on our platform - please let us know.
If cost is an issue - we do have programs to assist with this factor as well.

Hosting with Vine is a way of supporting WEC because proceeds from Vine support FFE ministries. Vine offers WEC turn-key hosting with the latest version of WEC as well as other hosting-related services

I hope this helps - In Service to the Kingdom

Thanks for the quick response, Glenn!

I actually just finished shooting off a message to info@vinehosting.com with a few other specific questions surrounding Vine Hosting. If you could make sure that someone gets back to me on those, I'd appreciate it! :-)

..so let me ask a question in relation to this thread. The web hosting site I am going to be using has typo3 installed, then WEC should work fine on it ?

Thanks
Dave
