Create News Story with tt-news

Learn how to create a news story using the tt-news extension.

For Version: TYPO3 v.4.0, News v.2.2.24, TIMTAB Weblog (for blogging) v.0.5.5

In this tutorial, you'll learn how to create a new news story, assign categories to news stories, and attach files and relations to news stories.

  1. Click on List under Web modules.
  2. Select your Storage Folder where your News will be stored.
  3. Scroll down until you see the News records list. Click on the "New record" icon to add a new story.
  4. Enter a Title for your news story.
  5. Enter the date to begin and end publishing this news story. You can "schedule" news stories to appear and disappear at certain times so they do not have to be manually removed.
  6. Un-hide the story by clicking the checkbox beneath "Hide."
  7. Select what "Type" of news story it will be.
    News - a regular text new story
    Link internal Page - links to a page on your site
    Link external URL - links to a web page not on your website
    Blog Post - Makes the news story like a blog entry.
  8. The Date/Time should be entered already. If you wish to change it, enter in U.S. date format.
    Archive date allows you to set a date at which the story will be sent to the archives.
  9. Under Author, enter the story author's name and Email if you wish.
  10. Under Subheader, create a short line of tester text. If you leave this blank, the first few lines of your news story will be shown in the News List view.
  11. Enter your News story text including images if you wish.
  12. You may add keywords which will help with internal website searches and also in assigning related news stories. Separate each keyword with a comma.
  13. Scroll up and click on the Relations tab.
  14. You can assign a category to your news story. This is helpful for when you create topic-specific news lists, or send out topic-related mass emails with the Direct Mail extension.
  15. Click on a category in the Items list, or select multiple by holding down the Cntrl/Apple key while you click on each.
  16. To add a new category, click the icon to the right of the Items field.
  17. Enter the category name and any other information. You may also make your new category a sub-category of an existing one.
  18. Save and close the category.
  19. The category has been replaced with your new category.
  20. To edit a selected category, select it then click the pencil icon to the right of the Items field.
  21. Make your edits, then Save and close.
  22. Add other categories by clicking on them in the Items list.
  23. To add an image to the news story click the folder icon next to the Images field. This image or images will be added in a location determined by the News template.
  24. Enter a caption if you wish, and alttext.
  25. Links may be added by typing in their full URL, or by entereing the HTML markup for the link.
  26. You may also select related news articles. Depending on the News extension configuraion, related news articles may also be determined by associated categories.
  27. You may select files associated with your news story such as PDFs, Mp3s, Videos, etc. Click the file folder icon next to the Files field.
  28. Save and close.
  29. Be sure to "Clear FE cache" so your newest News stories will appear on the front-end of your website.
